When to Assess Your Rhinoplasty Results
When to Assess Your Rhinoplasty Results
Rhinoplasty (nose surgery) is one of the most rewarding cosmetic procedures, but it also requires patience. Results evolve over time, and it’s important to know when it’s realistic to evaluate your outcome.
1 Week: Splint Removal
When your splint comes off, you’ll see the first glimpse of your new nose. However, expect some swelling and sometimes bruising. The nose may look wider or more “puffy” than it will long-term.
1–3 Months: Early Healing
Much of the swelling in the upper part of the nose resolves, and your nasal bridge starts to take shape. The tip remains swollen longer. At this stage, friends and coworkers will notice your new look, but refinement is still ongoing.
6 Months: Significant Progress
By the six-month mark, you’ll see a much closer representation of your final result. The majority of swelling has subsided, especially in the bridge and sides.
1-2 Years: Final Results
True final results can take a full 12 months (or longer for thick-skinned patients). The tip continues to refine, cartilage settles, and swelling is fully resolved. Only at this point can your surgeon assess the final outcome.
Steroid injections, typically of a corticosteroid like triamcinolone (Kenalog), are used after rhinoplasty to manage inflammation and refine results. They are not for all patients but are most beneficial for those with thick skin or persistent swelling in specific areas.
Patience is key after Rhinoplasty. While you’ll see exciting early changes, your nose will continue to refine for up to a year. Regular follow-up visits with your surgeon ensure your healing is on track.
